Owner Comments:

In 1970, the mint produced small and large date varieties of the 1970-S Lincoln Cent. The small date is the scarcest of the two and actively collected. The identification keys for differentiating between the small and large date are associated with the placement of the numeral 7 in the date and the strike of the “Liberty” motto. For the small date, the top of the numeral 7 in the date is even with the tops of the other digits whereas the large date 7 top is lower than the tops of the other digits. In addition to the placement of the 7, the strike of the motto “Liberty” is noticeably weaker in the small date variety as compared to the large date.
