Owner Comments:

Many coin collectors view Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty half dollar design as among the most beautiful ever issued by the United States mint. The obverse currently appears on the Silver Eagle bullion coin. Weinman’s design was selected from a number of submissions for the new half dollar design which was introduced in 1916. Interestingly the head of Ms. Liberty which appears on this coin was given a set of wings and appeared on Weinman’s Mercury dime, which also won the competition for that denomination.

The coin shown above is a totally original, never dipped Gem Proof with no visible hairlines. The surfaces are lightly layered with blue and gold toning. There is very little of the haze when is often found on undipped examples of the silver Proof coins from this era.
