Owner Comments:

O.114 R3. CAC. 2nd Finest known behind SP66 Eliasberg. "This coin is SUPER nice too! A full booming cartwheel type luster blazes from both sides. The surfaces are slightly semi-prooflike and are mind boggling clean and smooth. A totally ORIGINAL mix of moderate golden brown/blue/pale purple colors is evenly spread around. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and have exceptional strikes. The eye appeal is wonderful! PCGS 9, NGC 7, CAC 3. Its VERY important to note: prior to this coin selling in auction, the last 1822 Bust Half to sell was a NGC NON CAC back on 05/2011 (2 years ago!). That coin then brought $13,225.00. Yes, not only have these coins gone up in price, but they are unheard of being offered at shows anymore. We are thrilled to be able to own and present this 191 year old tremendous coin for inclusion in your set," per Legend website cataloger. Obtained from Laura Sperber of Legend Numismatics on 5/27/2013. Ex: Heritage Auction #1184 on 4/25/2013, Lot 4264, described there as, "Here is an important condition rarity in the Capped Bust half dollar series as a variety and as a date. For all varieties, PCGS has only certified nine examples, with just four finer (3/13). The finest examples of O-114 offered in recent years include the Eliasberg SP66 PCGS coin, one certified as MS66 NGC, and two PCGS MS65 examples, including the present Gem. This remarkable Gem exhibits delicate golden-brown toning over its fully lustrous surfaces with bold design motifs on both sides. Wisps of blue peripheral toning enhance the eye appeal of this lovely half dollar."
