Owner Comments:

Early Releases.

Great Basin National Park is located in Nevada. It was originally established as a National Monument on January 24, 1922. The park was set apart to preserve wonderful examples of regional geology, biologic diversity, and scenic beauty. It also contains many prehistoric cultural resources, as well as resources related to the early West like mining and ranching.

The Great Basin National Park quarter is the third of 2013 and the 18th overall in the America the Beautiful Program. The reverse image depicts a twisted beauty of a lonely Bristlecone Pine standing on the rocky terrain where the trees grow. These trees are one of the world's oldest living organisms, some believed to be over 4,000 years old! That boggles my mind! Inscriptions are GREAT BASIN, NEVADA, 2013 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. This is one my favorite quarters so far.
