Owner Comments:

1964-DENVER JEFFERSON w/ FULLSTEPS

There were a little more than 1.7 Billion nickels minted this year. Only (13) were
certified in both of our top grading services today in this grade an higher.

This 1964-Denver nickel is a major series rarity with a grade of MS66 having five fullsteps.
Bernard Nagengast- wellknown specialist, observed that it is unknown of having any with six
fullsteps. Finding the condition of these coins were disturbing' where the quanity took over
the quality.

This 1964 Denver nickel also exhibits some gold toning around the edges, as you'll notice
from the photos. It's 1 out of 2000 coins of finding any having a complete fullstep.

Population from the two top grading services:
As of November 2014

NGC (4) in MS66-FS/with only (2) in MS67-FS
PCGS only (7) in MS66-FS /none higher.

THREE YEARS LATER!

Updated March 2017
NGC (4) in MS66-FS/ with only (2) in MS67-FS

PCGS (12) in MS66-FS/ none higher.

Jaime Hernandez: He wrote this a few years ago.

The 1964-D Jefferson Nickel has the highest mintage for any Nickel ever struck by the U.S. Mint.
This was also the first year in which the mint struck over a billion Nickels for any date.

Compare this to the 1950-D Jeff- Nickel which has a mintage of 2,630,000. Despite the large
mintage the 1964-D Jefferson Nickel,it's also one of the toughest dates in the Jefferson Nickel
series to find in high grades. PCGS has only graded about 35 examples in MS66 with none
higher. And with Full Steps, it is considered even scarcer with about 5 or so known examples,
in MS66 Full Steps with none being finer.

Out of this large mintage for the 1964-D Jefferson Nickel, there are probably some very nice
examples in MS66 grade or higher with Full Steps details just waiting to be found....

* However' after my update again for this date' - I'm not so sure...
