Owner Comments:

O.106a R3. Possibly tied with two others for the finest known of the die variety. The only known die marriage with a beaded border reverse that was used for regular production. This Redbook variety reverse was used to produce all three years of the Novadel Crushed Letter Edge Proofs dated 1833, 1834 and 1835, but likely produced in 1836. LDS with die crack form right wing to C. Vibrant rainbow hues adorn the peripheries of this conditionally rare example. Overton describes the obverse as having a rough surface, with "a pronounced roughness around date and last four stars, especially the latter." That diagnostic is repeated here, helping to confirm it as an example of O-6a, along with noticeable die breaks on the reverse. Satiny and highly lustrous, with a few trivial surface marks. Obtained from StacksBowers Auction on 8/9/2012, Lot 9087.
