Owner Comments:
These coins were minted from 1722 through 1724 by the English entrepreneur William Wood for use in Ireland and the Americas. Those destined to be used in Ireland were inscribed with "Hibernia" (Latin for Ireland) on the reverse, while those minted for American use show "Rosa Americana". The Hibernia coins feature a seated goddess holding the harp, an emblem of Ireland. The obverse of both display a portrait of King George I. The Hibernia coinage was minted in farthing (quarter-penny) and half-penny denominations.
There are several varieties of this issue: rocks at right on reverse, harp at left on reverse, harp at right on reverse, and "DEII" error on obverse. This coin is of the "harp at right variety".
