The 2010 James Buchanan Presidential $1 Coin honors the fifteenth President of the United States. It is also the fifteenth coin in the series and the third to be released in 2010.
Buchanan had sought the nomination for President several times, but had been unsuccessful. That is, until division within the Democratic Party made his nomination and eventual election possible.
Having served many political posts before serving as the chief executive, Buchanan knew the ins and outs of Washington, but was unable to garner much political strength in office due to the political climate of the day.
Buchanan is also the only President to be a lifelong bachelor.
