Owner Comments:
Koala imagery on an Australian coin is nothing new for the Perth Mint. It was in 2007 that the Perth introduced a series of coins with a koala which has been issued annually ever since.
Each year, the reverse features a new design depicting the marsupial. The original 2012 image of the creature is the work of artist Aleysha Howarth. It shows the koala asleep on the branch of an eucalyptus tree with its front limbs draping over the branch.
Surrounding the reverse design are the inscriptions of "AUSTRALIAN KOALA," "2012" and "1/10 Ounce 999 SILVER." The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark may also be found on the reverse located just above the koala.
Seen on the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, the effigy is surrounded by the inscriptions of "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA" and "10 CENTS."
The coin is struck as legal tender of Australia under the Australian Currency Act of 1965.
