Owner Comments:

The enabling legislation that called for the change to the reverse of the iconic Lincoln cent required it "shall bear an image emblematic of President Lincoln's preservation of the United States of America as a single and united country". The winner of the competition was Lyndall Bass’ Union Shield design. Her winning design was sculpted by Mint sculptor, Joseph F. Menna. Both artists’ initials appear on the design. The specimen here is a frosty ultra cameo PF70.
