Owner Comments:

This iconic obverse design dates back to 1909, with minor changes. The only changes to the obverse design from its original design in 1909 time was a minor change to Lincoln's cheek in 1916 and to place the designer's initials (VDB for Victor D. Brenner) on Lincoln's sleeve near the rim (first appeared after the designer's death in 1918). The reverse design is almost equally iconic. The reverse was designed by Frank Gasparro and was introduced in 1959. The Lincoln cents were introduced in 1909 with a bronze alloy that had been used since the mid nineteenth century with the Indian cents (95% copper, with zinc and tin). That original alloy was used through 1962 ( with the exceptions of 1943 when steel was used and 1944 and 1945 when military shell casings were added to some of the bronze blanks). In 1963 the tin was removed from the alloy and a new copper/zinc alloy was used until the mint switched to a copper-plated zinc composition in 1982. This specimen is a lovely ultra cameo perfect PF70.
