Owner Comments:
With a small mintage of only 14,000 pieces, the 1850-O gold dollar is the scarcest of the New Orleans mint Type I gold dollars. The coin has remained underrated, however, because the New Orleans mint does not carry the “romance” associated with the Charlotte and Dahlonega mints.
The coin shown about is a very attractive AU-58 example with good color and full hair detail for Ms. Liberty. There are enough marks in the field to lower the grade from full Mint State status.
