Owner Comments:

In 1876 U.S. Government officials noted that the Twenty Cent Piece was failure. The Philadelphia mint limited its output to only 14,640 pieces, which included 1,260 Proof coins. The Carson City mint melted all but 16 to 18 of the 10,000 pieces the facility produced before production was halted.

The coin above is a very lustrous Proof with blue toning on both sides. It has been estimated that 820 of these Proof coins still survive although the vast majority of them are not as well preserved as this piece.
