Owner Comments:

A new high in minted proof sets was attained for the year 1960 with 1,691,602 surpassing the previous high set in 1957. It was during this year that the master die that was used was finally "reworked" resulting in a much sharper image of Franklins hair and the detail of the liberty bell. One oddity though was that compared to the early coins of 1950's the bell lines are not as distinct as its earlier predecessor. Hairlines and "milk spots" still are noted on occasion Because of the high mintage this particular year was one of the issues melted down during the silver boom of the late 70's
Higher graded gem Franklins in PF 68 and PF69 are very rare to find and if acquired, one should feel very fortunate.
As expected with the master die being reworked, cameo's saw a major increase in the production run. It is extremely rare though to find "matching" contrast in their cameo appearance. One side would tend to be greater than the other. NOTE: 1960 also has a DDO variety.
