Owner Comments:

The Virginia halfpenny was struck in London in 1773 to be used in the Virginia colony. It features a portrait of King George III on the obverse and the royal arms of Great Britain on the reverse. By the time these coins arrived in America in 1775, the American Revolution was underway. Relatively many nice examples of this coin still exist due to the discovery a hoard of uncirculated coins.

There are two varieties of the Virginia halfpenny: period after "GEORGIVS" on obverse, and no period after "GEORGIVS".

This coin is one of 5 red-brown examples certified by NGC with none finer. NGC has one certified MS66 BN.
