Owner Comments:

Located in the central eastern portion of California, Yosemite was designated as a National Park on October 1, 1890, but remained under the control of the State. In 1916, the National Park Service was established and the park was transferred to it.
The Yosemite National Park quarter is the third of 2010 and the third overall in the series. The coin features the iconic El Capitan, which rises more than 3,000 feet above the valley floor and is the largest monolith of granite in the world. Like Yellowstone, this quarter is beautiful, but it’s also one that I wish a different National Park was picked to honor. Yosemite was one of the primary features of the California Statehood quarter. Sequoia/Kings Canyon NPs would have been neat choices.
