1895-O NGC AU50PL VAM-5 Discovery CoinA placeholder until a Mint State one comes my way. In mint state prooflike, this is an extreme rarity. Even if one has the funds to purchase one of them, the wait for one to enter the market can be long. Each grading service has certified only a single gem in DMPL.My records indicate that the NGC MS65 DPL appeared on the market as lot 7017 in the Heritage ANA Portland auction on 08/07/1998. It failed to sell above the reserve. It came back to auction in the 2004 FUN sale where it hammered at $120,000. The PCGS MS65 DMPL sold on 05/31/2001 with a hammer price of $165,000.There are only a handful of mint state prooflikes in choice and below. A few of the counts undoubtedly include resubmissions due to upgrade margins. AU sliders are more common in general. But the prooflike fraction is expectedly low, with none of them graded by PCGS.The NGC MS60 DPL sold in 1998 for $13K as did the PCGS MS61 PL in 1993.
