Beautiful black and white cameo. Tied with one other for finest certified by NGC. There is another at PCGS, the Hoffnagle coin #5416667.1880-S is one of the most common dates in MS and in prooflike. However, the populations so far for this variety are extremely low. I believe many more high grade examples will surface over the next few years as people closely examine unattributed 1880-S slabs. Depending on the variety premium, we may see quite a number of them submitted for retagging. This also is an area of high potential for promotor abuse, which could tarnish VAM collecting ultimately. Spitting eagles and alligator eyes are already being abusively promoted by a few as noted rarities when they are indeed not.An absolutely fantastic specimen.
