Owner Comments:

Like the Barber dime and quarter, Charles Barber's half dollar design featured a portrait of Ms. Liberty that bore a slight resemblance to the “young head” portrait of Queen Victoria and other ladies, both real and fictional, who appeared on 19th century European coinage. The reverse was a slightly updated (from the early 19th century) of the heraldic eagle.

Many modern observers view Barber’s design as serviceable but staid. The mint issued 627 Barber half dollars in 1913. Although that mintage in typical for the period, I found this date more difficult do find than earlier dates of this type. The coin has some light toning mixed with a few very minor marks that are to expected for the PR-64 grade. This piece is a part of a 1913 Proof set (cent through half dollar) that I assembled over a period of three years.
