1 Kreuzer minted in 1871, the year of German Unification. The Bavarian State was under the rule of Ludwig II (Grandson of Ludwig I) who ruled between 1864 and 1886. Ludwig II lived in a fantasy land and was a major patron of Wagner. He is most famous for his castle Neuschwanstein which has probably done as much for Bavarian tourism as Oktoberfest. Unfortunately Ludwig II's life and reign was cut short. His body was found in a lake along with his doctor. Whether it was suicide or murder is still contested.
