Owner Comments:

Looking at the original mintage of 108,020 coins, the 53s WC would not be considered a rare coin. However when looking at the surviving mintages of this date that avoided the melting pot, Bowers estimates 88,000 were distributed; while Flynn estimates 48,000 survived. Still not a rare coin based on mintage numbers alone. The 53 S had the 3rd highest production in the series, yet the pop numbers are relatively low- why? The lack of collector interest in the latter part of this series meant the coins were dumped at or near face value, and or many were melted. This coin has blazing lustrous and clean surfaces. Beautiful concentric golden rim toning covers the obverse legends; the reverse has russet and some golden toning on the same. Clean cheek on WC and wonderful eye appeal CAC certified. An interesting note: this coin is rotated with the obverse portraits and USA map rotated and off about 20-25 degrees from a "normally" struck WC.

** Note the pop census explosion in total numbers over the past 14 months!

Population PCGS 94 in 66, (4+), 5 in 67 none higher, NGC 107 ((9*) in 66, 14 in 67 (3* & 1+) none higher, CAC 14 in 66 none higher. (8-11)

Population: PCGS: 116 in MS66 ( includes 7+), 5 in 67 (with 1 in 67+). NGC: 135 in 66 ( includes 9* & 1+), 15 in 67 ( with 3* & 1 * / +). CAC: 35 in 66, 1 in 67. (10-12)
