Owner Comments:

Christian Gobrecht patterned the 1837-8 No Stars half dime and dime directly after his first design for the silver dollar. The motif without stars has a cameo look to it, and the design is clean and uncluttered. The strikes were also quite sharp. When the powers at be decided to add stars and then a drapery the beauty of the coin was never the same.

The coin pictured above is a very sharp, virtually mark free example with undipped surfaces. The luster under the toning is quite stong.
