1836 Script 8. PCGS MS62. Head of 1835, Breen 6143 - variety 13. Weakly struck centers as usual for this variety. Yellow to orange-gold luster. Late state obverse die crack from 11 to 4 O'Clock. Minimal marks in the fields. Mark Borckardt in his "Die Varieties of Classic Head Quarter Eagles" reports that of 410 1836 quarter eagles sold at Heritage Auctions, only 30 examples of this variety were present. This is about 7 percent of the total population. Thus, this is an elusive die variety, especially in uncirculated condition.
