The 1917 McKinley gold dollar was issued to raise additional funds for the McKinley Memorial which is in Niles, Ohio. With an estimated net mintage of 5,000 pieces, the 1917 McKinley is much scarcer than the 1916 dated piece.
The present coin has attractive proof-like surfaces and has great eye appeal. An examination of the surfaces with a strong glass reveals the defects that account for the MS-64 grade. This piece also carries a green CAC sticker.
