Owner Comments:

The Pennsylvania Silver quarter was the second coin released in the 50 State Quarter Program on October 12, 1999. The obverse side depicting President George Washinton was modified to include some of the wording previously used on the reverse. The modification was autorized by special legislation, and carried out by Mint sculptor-engraver William Cousins, whose initials were added to the truncation of Washinton's neck adjacent to those of the original designer, John Flanagan. The Governor approved the theme which features the statue, Commonwealth, with an outline of the state and their motto, Virture, Liberty, Independence, and a keystone. Reverse Designer: John Mercanti.
