Date/mm Information: Lustrous examples are easily found but with weakness in the centers.
Coin Description:
Remarkably clean surfaces for the date/mm combine with a great strike to account for the lofty grade matched by less than 25 others. The coin boasts strong luster and dove gray surfaces with champagne highlights. Monticello shows above average detail with the exception of the steps which are almost non existent.
Comments:
The window and door detail on Monticello are exceptional which is incredible considering that the 53-S was voted the second worst struck date/mm of the entire series behind the 54-S. Coins of this caliber don't hit the market very often and when they do, one must take advantage of the opportunity. I paid $125 back of Numismedia wholesale for this coin in a no reserve E-Bay auction in April of 2010.
