Owner Comments:

Delightful 1920 Dime, MS68 Full Bands
1920 10C MS68 Full Bands NGC. Due to a post-World War I economic boom in 1920 the emphasis was on quantity, not quality at the Philadelphia Mint, churning out an enormous number of Mercury dimes approaching the 60 million mark. Simple circulation wear as well as the "fadeaway" common on the 0 of the date--a weak strike due to its placement too close to the rim--has eliminated most of the issue from the highest Mint State grades. Fortunately, a number of wonderfully well-struck Mint State coins do exist--but even then, they mostly no finer than MS67 Full Bands. This piece is one of only two that NGC has graded MS68 Full Bands, with none finer and none at PCGS (9/09). This satiny piece boasts delightful purple-pink obverse color with a crescent of steel-blue near the rim. The reverse has an essentially untoned central area with similar hues predominating elsewhere. The piece is fully struck throughout, including the final digit and all bands on the fasces.(Registry values: N2998) (#4929)
