This fourth coin in the series represents the period Lincoln served as President in Washington, D.C. (1861-1865).

This proof was created using special a coin blank that was fed into presses with specially prepared dies and struck multiple times. That’s how it got the sharp relief and gorgeous cameo effect.

Interesting tidbit... Lincoln ran for the presidential nomination against Salmon P Chase. I don't know if Chase is related to me. Even though he and President Lincoln didn't always get along very well, Chase was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by Lincoln and was responsible for introducing modern banknotes into our monetary system and played a big role in getting the phrase "In God we trust" added to our coinage. He was a founding member of the Republican Party. His likeness is on the $10000 bill. Chase later went on to become the 6th Chief Justice of the US. He sat on President Johnson's impeachment.
