The Guam Quarter was released on May 26, 2009. This was the third coin in the 2009 DC & US Territories Quarter Program. It features a map outline of the island, a Latte stone that was once used as building support or pillar in ancient Chamorro society. A native boat, called a Flying Proa, is displayed. These were known for their great speed. The inscription, “Guahan I Tanó ManChamorro” means “Guam, Land of the Chamorro”. Chamorro is one of the official languages of Guam.
