1896 25C PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. From a proof mintage of 762 pieces, this issue is one of the more available proof quarters of the era. Charles Barber's classic profile of Liberty shows to best advantage on this superb specimen. Clearly, the Mint engravers and technicians had fully mastered the techniques of proof coinage at this juncture. This coin can hold its own with any proof issue produced today.
The present specimen is a magnificent example of the minter's art. The liquid, deeply mirrored fields are flawless. All design elements are frosty, and strongly delineated. The contrast is truly breathtaking. The spectacular eye appeal of this piece will inspire spirited competition from connoisseurs of Barber coinage. Census: 1 in 69 Ultra Cameo, 0 finer (12/08).
