1842 $5 Large Letters AU58 NGC. Both reverse types of 1842, Small Letters and Large Letters, are considered scarce and underrated. Only 27, 578 half eagles were minted in Philadelphia during the year, and that includes both reverse types. This impressive example is boldly defined with rich green-gold surfaces and clearly reflective fields that retain some of the original prooflike appearance.
