1881 TRADE $ PROOF 68* CAMEO NGC 3210970-016
The 1881 Trade Dollar is part of a proof-only issue with a mintage of just 960 coins. Few have survived in such a high technical grade as the piece in this registry set. In fact, it is one of just three specimens certified at this lofty grade level, and no finer examples have been seen (10/08). The cameo contrast on both sides is outstanding, and even high magnification reveals no impairments to the immaculately preserved surfaces. The obverse displays crescents of cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-brown patination along the right border. A similar coloration takes on a mottled-type of effect throughout the entire reverse. The design elements are boldly impressed and reveal excellent detail. This coin exudes super eye appeal. 3 in 68* cameo, none finer
