Owner Comments:

In 1860 the mint decided for reasons that have never been explained to replace the laurel wreath that had appeared in the 1859 Indian cent with an oak wreath that had the addition of a small Union shield at the top. Perhaps the Union shield and the oak wreath, which symbolized strength, were added to rally support for the nation which was headed toward a bloody civil war, but that is only speculation on my part. In other respects the coin remained in the same in size, weight and composition.

The present coin has strong luster and well defined details which are only marred by a couple of marks on the obverse. It is nice example of the MS-64 grade.
