Owner Comments:

The fourth commemorative quarter-dollar coin released in 2008 honors Alaska, and is the 49th coin in the U.S. Mint's 50 State Quarters Program. Alaska, admitted as the 49th state to the Union is thought of as "America's Last Frontier" because of its distance from the lower 48 states and because of its rugged landscape and climate. The state was purchased from the Russians in 1867.
