1812 1C Small Date XF40 PCGS. S-290, R.1. A die scratch (as made) from the hair below the center dot is diagnostic for the variety. The eighth star has a planchet flaw, as produced, and the left obverse field has a pair of wispy and faded pinscratches. The dark brown surfaces are very attractive for the grade, and Liberty's lower hair tresses are richly defined.
