NGC US Coin Census for Sacagawea Dollars (2000-Date)

Owner Comments:

The Sacagawea Dollar was the U.S. Government's next attempt to get the public to accept a one dollar coin after the Susan B. Anthony coin failed. The benefit would be that a dollar coin would be far more durable in circulation than the paper dollar thus saving considerable government funds. Most of the public was not interested in weighing down their pockets with more coins, however. Thus the Sacagawea joined the Eisenhower and Susan B. Anthony dollars as another failed experiment. The nearly all of coins languish in vaults or appear in numismatic collections. This NGC PR-69 Ultra Cameo Proof Sacagawea Dollar is as attractive as this design can be. While the design of the coin is pleasing, the metal alloy from which the coin is made (a pure copper core with outer layers of manganese brass) is unstable and tarnishes easily.
