Owner Comments:

The 1851-O half eagle is the only date minted by New Orleans between 1848 and 1853. This date is the 4th rarest in high grade (AU and above), and eight in overall rarity (tied with the 1857).

This PCGS MS61 coin is from the Pinnacle Collection, and it listed as fourth finest known in Doug Winter's book, and is his plate coin on page 104. It is the only coin that has since the finest known in December of 2005 for 63,250 in an ANR auction.

The coin is well struck and very frosty with superb original green-gold color that deepens towards the borders. For the grade, the surfaces are very choice and is remarkably high end for the grade.
