The 1858-O is similar in rarity to the 1857-O, although slightly more rare. It is 8th of 13 in the New Orleans Double Eagle set and 10 of 43 in the Type I Double Eagles.
While most coins of this issue show a poor strike, this example is above average. All stars show clear delineation, as do the curls around the face and below the ear. Luster has some proof-like sections, although it is not a strong in this way as the 1857-O in the Louisiana Purchase.
AU58 is behind an estimated 6 or 7 mint state coins. PCGS 12/1 NGC 25/7. As with all these dates, the AU58 are likely inflated due to resubmissions.
