This is a controversial variety. Some consider it an "overdate" and it has become commonly accepted as so as a result of NGC and PCGS calling it a variety. However, I subscribe to the alternative point of view. Upon careful, detailed inspection, I do not see a "2" under the "3" in the 1853 date. It is likely die rust or some other anomaly.
This coin was originally in a PCGS AU58 holder in a Gold S.S. Central America holder. It was attempted to have been upgraded to MS due to its quality, including cartwheel effect luster. However, it was not to be, so I inherited the PCGS sticker with the NGC slab.
