The 1853-O is much scarcer than the 1851 or 1852 issues from this mint, although it ranks 11 out of 13 in New Orleans Double Eagle high grade rarity. In fact, once you get to 11th on the list, AU58 becomes rare, especially with good eye appeal and originality.
This coin is slightly prooflike with much remaining luster between the devices. It is better struck than the average, with no distracting marks on either side. Coloration is yellow-gold. The reverse has a small planchet flaw with the stars for identification purposes.
