Owner Comments:

This very first nickel issued for the Westward Journey Series celebrating the 200 Anniversary of Lewis and Clark Expediture was minted in 2004. Both coins dated 2004 still have the same observe of the President Jefferson's left-facing profile. Two new reverse was used in 2004. This first one shows the Jefferson Peace Medal that was given to the Native Indians by Lewis and Clark some 200 years ago. The other 2004 design shows the Keel Boat that was used during the Expediture. In 2005, the obverse was changed to a right-facing President Jefferson's Profile. A reverse design of an American Bison was issued first and then an ocean view which it was believe to be the sighting area when Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific coast in today's Oregon. In this proof collection, I have included the Peace Medal version issued in 2004. This coin was acquired in Oct 2007 graded by NGC. The quality is so perfect and that is why it earned a PF-70 Ultra Cameo. This coin is also one of my better graded coin in my Jefferson Nickel Collection.
