Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 67 BN
Variety: N-4, die state a

This is a nice coin. Though properly designated BN, it retains a good amount of coppery hue. The surface quality is excellent, with only a few small, slight grazes. A few of the stars lack definition, but the strike is otherwise quite good. It has terrific luster, as one would expect for the MS67 grade.

I obtained this cent from Heritage's January 2009 FUN show auction. It formerly belonged to another NGC Registry member, whose late date set had rivaled mine in points, but has apparently been mostly sold off.

From the Heritage catalog:
1855 1C Upright 5s MS67 Brown NGC. N-4, R.1. A pair of die lumps show below Liberty's earlobe and a pair of faint die lines are within the N in CENT, these being used to confirm the Newcomb variety. Although designated as Brown, there is a considerable amount of orange-red luster on each side. An attentive strike brings out bold detail on the design elements, with only a few star centers showing softness. Both faces are impeccably preserved, further enhancing the coin's outstanding eye appeal. EAC 63. Census: 4 in 67 Brown, 0 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
