Owner Comments:

The 1800 Bust Dollar is the second most common date in the series, ahead of the 1799. It is often available as a date.

The coin above is the Bolender obverse plate coin for the variety B-20. It's a rare variety, the discovery piece for the variety and it's tied for the finest known in the condition census.

At the time that Bolender wrote his early dollar die variety book, this was the finest known example. He commented that it was similar to the rare 1804 dollar and that he had seen a couple of examples of this coin that had had their dates altered to 1804. He did not elaborate beyond that, but he ended by saying that this variety is "as rare as an 1804." Today more examples of this variety have been located, but it's still a very scarce variety.
