Owner Comments:

PCGS graded MS 63 BN, EAC MS60
Variety: N-9, MDS

This surface of this coin is glossy, lacking noticeable cartwheel luster. Nevertheless, it has really nice eye appeal for the grade. Except for minor weakness in the forelock & hairbun, it is nicely struck, including 13 fully defined stars. There are no contact marks of note, but there are a couple small toning spots on the obverse.

I bought this coin in a Superior auction in August 2007. It was the coin's fourth auction appearance in 20 months! It appeared in the Heritage 2006 FUN auction as part of the Joshua and Ally Walsh collection, and in two later Heritage auctions. The price realized increased nearly 50% over those three auctions. Then I got it for the same price as in the 2006 FUN auction!

The Superior catalog description says:

1825 Coronet Head Cent. PCGS graded MS63 BR. N-9, High R.2.
Wide date, bases of IB and ER touch, top of T above R and slopes up to almost touch top of Y, square defect under T of CENT, both pendants heavily recut. An interesting Newcomb variety featuring glossy chestnut-brown surfaces and virtually no variance in color. No offensive marks or spots are noted, only diagnostic weakness at the denticles on each side.

The Heritage 2006 FUN catalog description says:

1825 1C MS63 Brown PCGS. N-9, High R.2.
Easily identifiable by small square of metal below the T in CENT on the reverse. Chestnut-brown surfaces display a semi-gloss sheen. The design features are almost perfectly centered and boldly defined, except for minor softness in portions of Liberty's hair, especially at the forehead and temple. Identifiable by a small mark from the rim to star 4.
EAC 60. Population: 12 in 63 Brown, 5 finer (7/06).
