Owner Comments:
NGC graded MS 65 BN, EAC MS60
Variety: N-2, die state a
This is a really nice looking coin, especially the reverse. The strike is sharp throughout, and there are no mentionable contact marks. My only reservation about it is a slightly darker central obverse toning that slightly subdues the luster.
I bought this coin from a May 2007 Heritage auction. It is an upgrade to an MS62BN cent I had bought raw from Chris McCawley.
From the Heritage catalog:
1843 1C Petite Head, Small Letters
MS65 Brown NGC. N-2, R.1. Grellman Die State a.
Attributed by the presence of small die lumps below the 1 and 4, a small spike that protrudes from below the left base of the N in ONE, and Liberty's earhole shaped much like a reverse comma. Glossy luster envelops the surfaces of this pleasing chocolate-brown cent. Only a few minor surface marks are noted, with a small tick on Liberty's cheek seemingly determining the grade.
Census: 18 in 65, 6 finer (4/07). EAC 60.
