This is the first year for the Morgan Silver dollar and is one of the rare date non Carson City GSA Morgans. Up until about August 2006, there were no graded GSA coins for this date in the NGC population reports. As of 4/07, there were 5 graded specimens, with the highest graded MS62. The first one to come to public auction that I am aware of was in August 2006 on ebay. See my journal for the details. The same coin was relisted on ebay in October 2006 at a substantial mark up. I don’t know what it sold for or if it was sold, because the auction was closed early – a possible off-ebay bid.
This date is extremely hard to find, though the high prices seem to be flushing a few more of these rare dates out in the open.
