This 1880-CC with the reverse of 1878 is very popular with collectors. The 1880CC had a low mintage of 591,000 which included the two main varieties, the 1880-CC with the reverse of 1879, and the 1880-CC with the reverse of 1878. Only 131,529 were included in the hard pack GSA holders. The variety with the reverse of 1878 is about three times rarer than the reverse of 1879 variety.

This outstanding coin is a VAM 4 variety and was acquired from a dealer in Florida in October 2006. As of this writing, there were 52 coins graded MS65 (8 of VAM 4), with 5 graded finer (1 of VAM 4).
