Owner Comments:
I have looked long and hard for an attractive and original Huguenot. I have rejected several PCGS MS66s, and even a MS64 that was masquerading in a PCGS MS67 holder. I "settled" on this mere MS65, registry points be damned. This piece has gorgeous warm satin luster, which is better than usual for the issue, and is complemented by a thin ring of light sea green, navy blue, violet, and russet toning on each side. The fields are a light gold, fading to white in the very center. Some folks like more toning than this, regardless of whether it hides the devices, but this is the ideal amount of original toning that I am aiming for in the set. You really have to hunt for the small scattered marks on this piece to find out why it is a properly graded MS65, but I'll take it any day over the plentiful overgraded and dipped out garbage one can easily find. My advice is to learn how to grade in both the old fashion technical style and the more liberal market grading that the grading services now use, in order to make sound decisions on where you will spend your hard earned money.
