This dime was modeled in honor of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The selection of the dime for this piece was prompted by President Roosevelt’s support for the March of Dimes, which in its early years funded research into the prevention and cure of polio. President Roosevelt never denied that he had suffered from polio, but he and his aids were careful not to reveal the extent of his disability that came as a result of his battle with the disease.
