Owner Comments:

WOW! Talk about rare, this 1880-CC Rev. of 78 overdate MS63 DMPL Vam 4 Top 100 is a nice coin to have in the collection. PCGS is showing only one 1880-CC Rev. of 78 Vam 4 DMPL in the Pop. report and this one is it. NGC is showing only one Vam 4 DPL also with it being graded in at Gem MS65. I bought this coin from Don Rinkor almost 4 years ago but did not know of the Vam 4 overdate until I started cherrypicking my collection. I have a lot of thanks to John Coxe who has helped me along with Vam collecting, he is a very well educated Numismatologist with the Vams. Most of the 1880-CC varieties are overdates with the Vam's 4,5, and 6 being the most prominent overdates of the entire Morgan series with complete 79 digits showing under the 80. In this Vam collection I have been lucky to find all three specimens in PL and DMPL with my Vam 6 MS65 PL being one of the finest known. The obverse of the Vam 4 is showing the 80 repunched over the 79 date. The two serifs of the 7 show above the 8, the bottom of the crossbar shows in the upper loop and and the stem on the right side of the lower loop. The 9 shows within the O inthe top left and bottom and a bulge shows outside at 10 o'clock. The 1 has a die chip at the top right of the shaft. The first 8 has vertical polishing marks inside partially filled loops. The reverse on the Vam 4 shows the parallel arrow feather when the other overdates 5 and 6 show the slanted arrow feather. This coin displays deep prooflike fields with nicely frosted devices. It has a few luster grazes and ticks which is consistent with the MS63 grade given by PCGS.
